Matthew Hackling B.Sc. (Security)

Matthew is the sole director of Ronin Security Consulting Pty. Ltd.  After a number of years working in a Big 4 professional services firm, and before that for a system integrator and previously for a consulting engineering company he has gathered the following experience he can now share with his clients:
Physical and Electronic Security
  • Testing, tendering and commissioning the upgrade of security systems of maximum security prisons for year 2000 compliance
  • Designing, tendering and commissioning physical and electronic security upgrades for maximum security prisons
  • Designing, tendering, contract management and commissioning of perimeter security upgrades for a juvenile detention center and a maximum security remand center.
  • Assisting on the design of the security for a maximum security reserve bank in an Asian country, design involved protection against Nuclear, Biological and Chemical (NBC) attack.
  • Assisting on the design of the security for a maximum security reserve bank in an Asian country, design involved protection against suicide bombing of foyer and glazing design to minimise injury in case of explosion.
  • Conducting site inspection of a new datacenter for a banking institution for the bank's internal audit department
  • Conducting site inspections of a new datacenter for a utility client's audit department
  • Conducting commissioning testing post installation of new electronic security systems in a bank datacenter
Computer Security
  • Acting as sole security architect on a $25M plus security focused program of work for a major financial institution
  • Acted as security architect on a new high security and low latency foreign exchange trading platform which has now traded over $40B to date.
  • Conducting a comprehensive assessment of internet banking processes and technology of two mid tier banking institutions for submission to APRA. Testing included an examination of web application security, infrastructure security and supporting policy and procedures.
  • Performing security acceptance testing of a major release of Australia's most well known internet banking system including testing of customer and customer service officer web interfaces and supporting infrastructure.
  • Performing security acceptance testing on a $110M web based telling system replacement project for a top tier banking institution. In addition further consultancy was performed linking security risks to requirements to  test cases performed subsequent to completion of testing.
  • Acting as trusted advisor on an internet banking replacement project for a top tier bank.  This engagement included production of a risk assessment, development of security requirements, conducting three phases of web application security assessment and testing of the pre-production environment
  • Testing a dispatch system for an emergency services organisation
  • Conducting various configuration examination based security assessments for water and electricity utility company audit departments of SCADA systems
  • Managing an internet service provider, web hosting environment, tendering system, ecommerce system and credit card payment gateway for a state government including firewall, router, server and intrusion prevention system administration.
Information Security Management
  • Conducting a year long secondment to a  banking institution to conduct assurance reviews over the roll-out of an information security governance framework. Resulting from these assessments was an improvement in the bank's audit rating.
  • Developing security policies, standards, processes and procedures for Australia's leading car manufacturer.
  • Developing technical security standards for a government health shared service center.

  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
  • Bachelor of Science (Security) Edith Cowan (note at issue in 1997 one of five people in world with bachelors in security management)
